Three Anglican Bishops Received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church in 2021

On Pentecost (May 23), John Goddard, who had been the Anglican bishop of Burnley, was received into full communion with the Catholic Church.1 On September 8, Jonathan Goodall, former Anglican bishop of Ebbsfleet, was received into full communion with the Catholic Church.2 On September 29, Michael Nazir-Ali, former Anglican bishop of Rochester, was received into full communion with the Catholic Church, and today (October 30) he was ordained to the priesthood.3 Deo gratias.

Almost two years ago, on 22 December 2019 the Anglican Bishop Gavin Ashenden was received into the Catholic Church by the Bishop of Shrewsbury, Mark Davies, at Shrewsbury Cathedral. Bishop Davies commented that it was “very humbling to be able to receive a bishop of the Anglican tradition into full communion in the year of the canonization of Saint John Henry Newman.”
